The Orono Agricultural Society is a not-for-profit organization established in 1852. The Society prides itself on hosting family-oriented agricultural events and entertainment.
Since its inception, people have been drawn to the various exhibits, entertainment, and competitive events. After being held for many years in Newcastle, the fair moved to its present location in 1895. The Orono Fair is the result of an amalgamation of the West Durham Agricultural Society and the Clark Agricultural Society in 1932. As a result of this union, theDurham Central Agricultural Society was established.
On January 19, 2011, the Society’s name changed once again and is now known as the Orono Agricultural Society. This change was made to make the fair easier to find in online searches, as there is also a county called Durham in Western Ontario, which made it difficult to distinguish between the two fairs.

Mission:

The purpose of the O.A.S. is to be stewards of our agricultural tradition, providing a sustainable venue for education and entertainment while fostering a sense of community.

Orono Agricultural Society

The Orono Agricultural Society is a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organization mandated by the Province of Ontario to promote agricultural awareness, support the agri-food industry, and enhance the quality of life within rural communities. Led by a dedicated board of 22 volunteers, elected by the Society’s membership, the Orono Agricultural Society is committed to preserving agricultural heritage while promoting community engagement and education.

Through educational initiatives and community events, the Society creates opportunities for residents and visitors alike to connect with agriculture and experience rural living. The Society proudly hosts the Annual Orono Fair each year on the weekend following Labour Day in accordance with provincial requirements for Agricultural Societies.

The fair annually features exquisite displays & competitions involving paintings, photographs, agriculture (fruits, vegetables and crops, sheep, cattle, poultry, and rabbits), flowers, knitting, woodworking, sewing, crafts, school displays, culinary creations, and many other artistic works &

one of the largest midways throughout the area.

The Orono Fair welcomes more than 40,000 visitors over four exciting days each year. Fairgoers enjoy a wide variety of attractions and events, including Albion Amusements Midway, Truck and Tractor Pulls, the Demolition Cross Derby, live entertainment, and many long-standing fair traditions.

Agricultural education remains a key focus of the fair experience, with interactive exhibits and hands-on learning opportunities that help visitors better understand agriculture, food production, and the journey from farm to table.

On Friday evening we host a concert on the fairgrounds. Our dedicated concert committee works diligently to bring award-winning CCMA artists and exceptional entertainment to our community each year.

Events like these are made possible through the dedication of our volunteers and the generous support of corporate sponsors and individual donors. The Orono Agricultural Society sincerely values and recognizes every contribution that helps us continue providing successful community events and agricultural programming.
