2026 EXHITBITOR SUBMISSIONS DEADLINE

Entries to be postmarked by Saturday, August 29th or emailed to [email protected] no later than midnight on August 31st. Electronic entry submission is available at www.assistexpo.ca/orono-fair. Online entries will shut down at midnight on August 31st, and late entries for most classes (excluding animals) will not be accepted. In-person drop off during fair week will not be accepted either, we kindly ask that you enter online, email or mail in your entries.

Our Office Administrator will be available in the portable building on the grounds from 10am – 2pm, Saturday, August 29th and Sunday, August 30 for last-minute drop-offs of paper copy entries.

NOTE: Maple Syrup must be a 2026 product. A colorimeter will be available at the office for your reference. There may be a slight colour difference from one colorimeter to another. The committee will not be responsible for placing the exhibit in the proper section.

MAPLE SYRUP DEPARTMENT RULES

  • Please see Exhibitors Registration Procedures (page 3 of Fairbook)
  • Entries must be taken to the Agricultural Building no later than Thursday, September 10th at 1:00 pm
  • The producer’s name must not appear on exhibits until after judging.
  • Exhibits must be picked up on Sunday September 13th after 4 pm.
  • Maple Syrup must have been produced in the current year by the person submitting the entry.
  • Maple Syrup must have a brix reading between 66-68%.
  • The exhibit will consist of a 1-250ml Kent-style glass bottle. The syrup should be packed hot (180 degrees–200 degrees).
  • There cannot be more than one entry per section per exhibitor.

 

JUDGING

  1. Maple Syrup under “a 66 Brix” (66% sugar) or entered in the wrong color class will be disqualified.
  2. Maple syrup with a brix reading in the defined range will be awarded 30 points.
  3. Clarity – clearest, debris-free maple syrup awarded 20 points, next best 25 points, etc.
  4. Flavor – best tasting maple syrup receives 40 points, next 35 points, etc.

 

OAAS MAPLE SYRUP COMPETITION

The top prize winner of the “AMBER” coloured Maple Syrup at the Orono Fair will be eligible to compete at the District level. At the District competition, Maple Syrup exhibits shall consist of one (1) – 250ml curved Kent style glass bottle or equivalent, of Maple Syrup from the same batch that was entered at the Orono Fair. The winning exhibitor at the District level will be eligible to compete at the Provincial Competition by providing an additional two (2) – 250ml Kent-style glass bottles from the same batch that was entered at the Orono Fair and District level Competitions. Provincial Prize Money: 1st – $50.00; 2nd – $30.00; 3rd – $20.00

First-time exhibitors who have never entered Maple Syrup before at the Orono Fair may enter your best bottle of Syrup regardless of color. This does not eliminate you from entering the other Maple Syrup sections.
