The Durham Central Fair

Honourary Members

Wallace Boughen

Wallace Boughen has been a dedicated member and worker on the Orono Fair Board for many years. Wallace remembers going to Orono Fair when admission was 35 cents (that was a lot of money back then!). He worked with his step-brother, Morley Robinson, taking horses to the fair for racing and judging. Leana Clysdale and Wallace would walk the horses from Crooked Creek (4th East) to the Fair. Wallace remembers prizes from the church booth and books from the Lumber Yard in Newcastle. Wallace has worked at the Fair building many structures such as the horse jumping frames and work in the poultry building, as well as any other work that needed to be done. He has been part of the Orono Fair for over sixty years, both attending and working at it. Wallace has enjoyed every minute of it, and he looks forward each year to the annual Fall Fair. He is always eager to work and make it the best fair ever. Wallace is always active in the Newtonville and surrounding area. He attends and supports the church, enjoys woodworking, and displays his crafts outside his home. Wallace has been famous for his sign collection and had a feature article on him a couple years ago in The Toronto Star. Our community and the Orono Fair is very fortunate to have such a dedicated, hard working member. I know your awarding him a lifetime membership would be a real honour for him. He is truly deserving of this recognition.
