The Regional Chair's Message

On behalf of Regional Council, congatulations and thank to all the participants and the organizers of the 2008 Durham Central Agricultural Fair. It's on of those wonderful community events that helps define the unique character of our Region. This fair celebrates the longevity and resilience of our rural community.

Farming was the foundation of this community and continues to be an important element of Durham's economy. The Region of Durham realizes that these are difficult days for many in the farm community. We recognize the important contributions of farming and rural life to the security of our food supply, our quality of life and the future prosperity of our Region. Within our mandate as a Regional Government, we strive to work with and advocate for our rural community and to diversify and strengthen Durham's rural economy. The Fair showcases our farming heritage and highlights the energy, ingenuity and determination of a new generation of rural residents. It brings the community together to celebrate skills and achievements. It's also a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with friends and neighbours.
