The Fair Ambassador's Message

Ambassador Aleisha Downes

When asked to be the Fair Ambassador, I was thrilled and saw it as a goal to reach. When that day came, when they called my name as the 2008-2009 Durham Central Fair Ambassador, words couldn’t describe how I was feeling, but I knew it was something I would never forget.

The weekend of the fair, I did so many things, from handing out ribbons at different events to MC the kids talent show to participating at the demolition derby and tractor pull. By the end of the weekend I was pretty tired, but it was one of the best times I had at the Orono Fair.

Throughout the year, I was asked to go to the Annual Orono Chilli Cookoff, where I handed out the awards for best chilli. I also participated in the Bowmanville and Newcastle Santa Clause Parade, where I got to sit in some nice cars. I also attended the Volunteer Night. I attended the convention in Toronto at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, where I met all the ambassadors from across Ontario and made some friends. The CNE will be my next major event where I get to meet all the ambassadors again and am looking forward to this event.

Being the Fair Ambassador, has been such an honour and an eye opener. I want to wish my luck to all the future fair ambassadors and to tell them it will be an experience that you will never forget because I know I won’t.
